Creative and Entertainment Economy Model Discussion

I’m working on a social science question and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.

I live in News York City and there is a vibrant and huge creative and entertainment economy here. This is the envy of many metropolitan areas the world over and in fact some cities are trying to use the NY model as a source of development. Cities provide ideal environments for creative activities to be fostered and grow, more so then in less dense areas. Do you believe this to be the case? Is there really an economic argument to be made about the role of the creative sector as an economic driver or is this just the creative imagination at work? Give examples from your home town or country.
