From last week’s powerpoint I found the topic creativity to be especially interesting. While researching I found PBS.org and BrightHorizons to be very informative. Both these websites had great additional information about creativity for children. PBS.org mentions, “Creativity is the freest form of self-expression. There is nothing more satisfying and fulfilling for children than to be able to express themselves openly and without judgment. The ability to be creative, to create something from personal feelings and experiences, can reflect and nurture children’s emotional health” (2019, p. 1, para. 1). This website also offered a variety of activities for teachers parents to do with their children. I was surprised to read about the simplest things you can do that will enhance a child’s creativity and imagination. For example, mix dirt and water, encourage children to splash in puddles, playing with boxes etc. BrightHorizons explain, “Imagination builds social-emotional development by allowing children to contemplate different resolutions, thus boosting children’s confidence, which can be used in interactions with others. Imagination and creativity are also skills that our children will need when they join the workforce of the future” (2019, p. 1, para. 2). I really enjoyed reading both websites, I believe that creativity is essential to a child’s learning and as educators we should provide them with a variety of materials to explore.
